When I had decided for a circus design, I started drawing lions jumping through hoops and horses running in circles. Then it came to me that I don’t like these kind of circus-acts. What I do like is a circus that creates an other world around its public. With this scarf I tried to create such a circus-world. You can not wear the scarf the wrong way. There...
I began this design with the drawing of a moth. It seemed funny on a woolen scarf. Thereafter I started drawing butterflies and other insects. Somehow a scarf with mere insects appeared dull. I therefore decided to use the wings only. It enabled me to make a more graphic design, something different from my other scarfs. You can not wear the scarf the...
Everything you see on this scarf came from paintings from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Designing this scarf made me study these pictures and all their details very closely. How even more wonderfull they became. Maybe during your next visit to the museum you will start looking for the paintings which I used for this scarf. Hopefully you will find them...
If you look closely, you will notice that I have drawn the majority of the fishes with pencils. I have used many different colours for each fish, but the appea-rance of the scarf remains sober. At first I added plants and shelves. Somehow all these additions made it unreal and messy. I decided to keep the scarf simple with mere fish that may look greyish...
I was inspired by ballet performances, in which the dancers move behind a curtain. Their silhouettes become visible. Their bodies take incredible shapes. When the scarf was printed a comparisson with Matisse’swork was made. For me a very happy one, although I have never thought of his work, when designing this scarf. You can not wear the scarf the wrong...
I was inspired by a beautiful but very sad picture of indians carrying their suitcases standing in the middle of nowhere, probably on the road to nowhere. I was temped to try to show the beauty of these people, nowadays often living in caravans standing on this nowhere land, that was allotted to them. You can not wear the scarf the wrong way. There is no...
I have never been in Japan but it is a country that fascinates me. Its nature, its literature, its culture and people. This scarf is based on the books I read and pictures made by others. Hopefully one day an other Japan scarf will follow in which I can express my own impressions resulting from a visit to this country. You can not wear the scarf the wrong...
I was inspired by the paintings of Rubens with the large naked women. They intrigue me. They appear to go back to the time of Adam and Eve when paradise still existed. I made the design with different digital technics. You can not wear the scarf the wrong way. There is no top or bottom. The scarf is either 100% silk (twill 17,5 m/m) or wool drill (70%...
I named this scarf Barca, after the city Barcelona. In the clothes on the line you may recognize pieces of art of Gaudi. One of the dresses has part of the text of the doors of the Sagrada di Familia, on the trousers you will find details of a window designed by Gaudi and the T-shirt shows his tiles. The coloured square block in one of the corners of the...
I designed this scarf after an inspiring trip to the South-western part of the country. I was overwhelmed by its vastness, nature and emptiness. We could drive for hours not seeing any houses or encountering living creatures. The influence of people seemed so much less then what I am used to. You can not wear the scarf the wrong way. There is no top or...
I was inspired by the BBC nature documentary Earthflight that shows the world from a bird’s-eye view. You may recognize the Dutch colourful bulbfields, a desert and a small Southern European harbour... You can not wear the scarf the wrong way. There is no top or bottom. The scarf is either 100% silk (twill 17,5 m/m) or wool drill (70% wool and 30% silk)...
When I helped my children with Geography I was ashamed that I was not able to point out all countries in Europe. I discovered I was certainly not the only one.The idea for this scarf was born. I made the design with different digital technics. You can not wear the scarf the wrong way. There is no top or bottom. The scarf is either 100% silk (twill 17,5...
I was in Myanmar during the rainy season. Water was (almost) everywhere. The Irrawaddy-river had flooded large parts of the crowded cities. The people just moved their homes and continued their lives. It looked as if they respected the river. So very different from what we are used to.
I was inspired during a dinner party. Our host had decorated the table in art nouveau style. Especially the flowers were more than beautiful; their colors and shapes. The next day I visited an exposition showing paintings of Klimt. I started drawing the moment I came home.
This is my first scarf with one big drawing, (part of) a sycamore tree. As I didn’t want the scarf to have a top or bottom, the leaves and animals follow the direction of the scarf and not of the tree. It took me quite some time to get everything in place.
You can not wear the scarf the wrong way. There is no top or bottom. The scarf is either 100% silk (twill 16,5 m/m) or wool drill (70% wool and 30% silk) and 100% Dutch, designed and printed in the Netherlands. It should be dry cleaned (with PCE) only.
